Optimal Sizing and Allocation of Energy Storage for Successful Islanding Operations in Smart Grid
Abstract
Distributed Generation (DG) has led to the development of Smart Grids (SG) to integrate alternative energy sources and improve the reliability of electricity Distribution Networks (DN), Energy Storage Systems (ESSs) are a promising technology that can increase system stability and reduce environmental impact. This study suggests a cost effective method for designing ESS units to improve distribution system performance, the approach is evaluated on the 33-bus radial DN using MATLAB and the Mountain Gazelle Optimizer (MGO). The main objective is determining the optimal combination of ESS units to manage scenarios while minimising power losses from 203 kw to around 63 kW. This strategy can reduce power losses and enhance the efficiency of DN. The study also provides insights into integrating ESSs into power systems for a more reliable and sustainable energy futurity.
