Among the symbols of artistic history in Laghouat: Al-Judi Mohamed (Al-Ray Malik) as a model
Abstract
Throughout history, Laghouat has been a capital of resistance, scholars, intellectuals, and artists. From the resistance of the hero Ben Nasser Ben Chohra and the resistance of Laghouat in 1852 to the men of the Association of Scholars, led by Sheikh Abu Bakr al-Hajj Issa, from the eloquent poet Abdullah Ben Kriou to its philosopher Mahmoud Yaqubi, from its thinker Ali Murad to its teacher Mohammed al-Sufi, the diverse names and attributes highlight its true status as a center of art, thought, and struggle.
Among these icons, we will examine the personality of the talented artist Mohamed al-Judi, known as al-Ray Malik, the singer, chanter, composer, poet, and playwright who toured Algeria and the Arab world, East and West, with his art as a teacher and student, becoming a shining name in the art world in general and Andalusian art in particular. It is even said that he founded the fourth school for this art form in Algeria.
