Abstract

After Alexander the Great’s conquest of Egypt and its fall under the rule of the Ptolemies, the Egyptian agricultural lands were considered their estate, and the Ptolemaic king became a pharaoh and a god. Knowing that he reserved for himself the right to dispose of it, and the summation of the saying regarding the issue of the land system is that the policy of the Ptolemies in this field was directed by two factors:

The first: It is working to build an economically strong state under their absolute monarchy.

The second: It is the establishment of a large number of Greeks who came to Egypt, and they were the main element in the formation of their army and their management of the country.

The problem of the subject centered on the following: What was the policy followed by the Ptolemies in exploiting the huge area of agricultural land in Egypt?

To answer this problem, the study included three axes:

- Royal lands that were directly invested by the King, tender or grant lands, and city lands.
