Laghouat through the voyage of the French painter Eugène Fromentin
Abstract
Western writings were interested in the Algerian Sahara by providing a description of it, highlighting its advantages and characteristics and focusing on the importance of its location and potential, and Laghouat is one of the cities that have received the attention of Western writings, especially French ones, given the importance of its strategic location and potential.
Eugène Fromentin represented a model of the travels of Europeans who showed their admiration and fascination with its views and characteristics, but at the same time they were influenced by colonial thought that carries the spirit of superiority and distinction between the West and the Arabs, and keen to show the Frenchman in a complete and perfect picture an expert in the life of Algerians who manages their affairs firmly and rigorously without being stripped of his benevolent feelings and emotions.
