Abstract

This article examines the religious life of the Andalusians following the end of Islamic rule in Granada under the authority of the Christian monarchy, which was strongly committed to Catholicism. Religion became the decisive factor shaping the relationship between the Andalusians and the Castilians. The Castilian Crown sought to convert the Andalusians to Christianity through a series of royal decrees and legal measures enacted by the rulers of the period. Consequently, religion became a direct cause of the suffering endured by the Andalusians, giving rise to a humanitarian tragedy marked by systematic persecution and coercive religious policies.
