The Importance of Communication in the Development of Religious Tourism:
Communication Patterns in the Tijaniyya Zāwiya
Abstract
Tourism is regarded as a major economic sector for many countries, serving as a primary source of national income and employment opportunities. It also represents a viable alternative for countries with limited economic resources, including those whose economies rely heavily on petroleum revenues.
In addition to Algeria's rich natural and cultural tourism potential, religious and spiritual tourism constitutes a significant economic asset. Algeria is home to the headquarters of one of the largest and most influential Muslim Sufi orders, the Tijaniyya. Its spiritual center, located in Ain Madhi, Laghouat Province, is the focus of the present study.
This study examines the role of information and communication tools in promoting religious tourism within the Tijaniyya Order. It also explores the contribution of these communication tools to the Order from spiritual, religious, and socio-economic perspectives.
