Local Radio in Southern Algeria and Its Role in Fostering Tourism Culture

Abstract

This article falls within the field of tourism studies, with a particular focus on tourism culture, which represents one of the fundamental pillars of the tourism industry. The study seeks to answer a communication-related research question concerning the role of regional radio in promoting tourism culture from the perspective of the local audience. Its primary objective is to examine a key aspect of tourism management: the development of an effective tourism culture that originates within the local community and ultimately benefits it. Employing a descriptive-analytical approach, the study provides a realistic assessment of the role of local radio stations in general, and regional radio in Southern Algeria in particular. It explores the extent to which selected radio programs contribute to fostering tourism culture and assesses how effectively these programs satisfy the informational and cultural needs of local listeners. This study is not intended as a critique of the regional radio station; rather, it acknowledges the significant efforts made by the Regional Radio of Tamanrasset, as reflected in its professional performance and the mutual trust established between the station and the local community.
