Civil society organizations in Iraq and their impact on democratic transformations

Abstract

There is a close relationship between civil society and democratization, and this relationship aims to lay the foundations of democracy in a way that ensures that members of society achieve justice and equality and ensures respect for human rights, as democracy is a social system that affirms the value of the individual and the dignity of the human personality and is based on the participation of group members in managing its affairs. A civilized achievement reached by man after a bitter struggle with injustice, arbitrariness and domination exercised by rulers over him, whether during the theocratic state or after the modern state was established with its massive restrictions aimed at controlling human capabilities, and since civil society through its voluntary, voluntary organizations independent of the state aims to Providing social services to citizens to practice various humanitarian activities within the framework of commitment to the values and standards of respect, compromise, tolerance, participation and the peaceful management of diversity and difference, the essence of the role of civil society is to organize and activate the participation of people in determining their own destiny and confronting policies that affect their livelihood and increase their impoverishment, and spread the culture of creating self-initiative And the culture of building institutions that emphasizes the will of citizens to act My history required by the free and decent life of individuals and their contribution to building their societies.
