Abstract

Marriage among females in Algeria has witnessed several changes, the most important of which is the increase in the age of the first marriage and the extension of the period of celibacy in both rural and urban areas as a result of the high educational level of women and their entry into the labor market. To be a wife and mother or she wants to marry. Through a field study in the city of Oran, which included 214 women aged 15 years and over, we concluded: - The schooled woman seeks to obtain the highest possible educational certificate before entering the world of work. - Most women of childbearing age, regardless of their individual status, prefer marriage and stability over work. - That the working woman is ready to give up work if the man refuses to work for his wife in order to start a family. Extension of a woman’s celibacy is a matter related to a delay in the age of marriage and not a delay, meaning that it is not optional but rather a reality imposed on the woman.
