Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present how fertility has evolved in Algeria over the past five decades. After specifying in the introduction the objectives and concepts of the study as well as the data sources, we will propose a synthetic description of the fertility transition, in the light of numerous statistical documents and survey reports, we will then explain the links between fertility and its determinants to better understand the reproductive behavior of Algerian women. These approaches have enabled us to identify fertility trends and highlight its differentials according to certain characteristics: level of education and stratum of residence.
