Environmental pollution and underdeveloped neighborhoods - a field study in the city of Setif -
Abstract
Pollution and slums are major concerns for large cities. This study represents an
attempt to understand the environmental reality of the slums, it is an attempt to shed light on
the problems of pollution and these effects on the inhabitants. At present, the environmental
state of most Algerian slums remains at a low level, the situation is very severe and worrying
due to pollution of air, water, noise and garbage which litter the streets attract stray animals,
flies, rats and insects vector contagious diseases. In addition to these hygienic consequences
of shanty towns, there are also very harsh social consequences. The social effects of pollution
are an obstacle to integration and social cohesion, Weakness of social relations, degradation
of neighborhood life
