Abstract

The growing interest of international societies and bodies in the recent period in sustainable development, the multiplicity of studies on activating its role, and the diversity of programs and plans to include it in development projects raises for us many complex questions about its prospects and the extent of the state's ability to face its challenges. These are modern challenges that Algeria has not encountered. Before, it pushed it to try to integrate sustainable development into urban planning tools, then provide it with legal and financial mechanisms, and multiple regulatory bodies. Accordingly, the embodiment of sustainable development on the ground and addressing its challenges in Algeria has become dependent on the performance and efficiency of the urban planning tools, as it is the most important legal and technical means owned by the state to control its urban field, and direct it according to its major strategic choices, with the aim of achieving a balanced and sustainable distribution of development, across all cities. national territory.
