The Didactics of Philosophy in Algeria in the Thought of Abdullah Sheriat
Abstract
This study aims to explore the didactics of philosophy in Algeria from the perspective of the thinker Abdullah Sheriat, who is regarded as one of the leading reformers in philosophy education during the postcolonial period. The research is situated within the broader context of the challenges posed by the educational system at the time. Sheriat sought to overcome the widespread disengagement from philosophy that he observed among learners, which he attributed to a lack of interaction with traditional content disconnected from lived reality. He delivered a sharp critique of rote learning methods and advocated for the teaching of the "act of philosophizing." Furthermore, he called for the modernization of philosophical content to reflect contemporary issues, emphasizing the necessity of actively involving the learner in the construction of philosophical knowledge
