Abstract

This study aims at identifying the reasons for the absence of teachers from official work as perceived by school principals and teachers in the Directorate of Education in Batinah South. It also seeks to detect the effect of the variables of targeted sample and gender on the causes of absence from the principals and teachers' point of view. This study also searches the effect of the variables of experience, social status, place of work, nationality, and extra income except salary on the absence of teachers from the perspective of teachers themselves. It also attempts to find whether there are statistically significant differences between the causes of teachers' absence according to the variables of qualification and financial grade. The sample consists of (298) schools principals and teachers [37 principals and 261 teachers] in Batinah South schools. A questionnaire was administered on the sample and it was resulted on the following: The economic level came as the first reason for the teachers' absence followed by the dimensions of job burden, job satisfaction, social level, social level, health level, and administrative discipline. The principals' perspective for teachers' absence is higher than that of teachers. males' are more influential on the reasons for teachers absence. The reasons for teachers' absence related to the job burden and administrative disciple are higher affected by (11-20) years of experience. The reasons for teachers' absenteeism related to human relationship are higher affected by single teachers in the variable of social status. The reasons for absence outside the housing area are more influential in the absence of teachers than within the housing area. The variables of nationality and extra income except salary have no impact on teachers' absence. There are no statistically significant differences on the reasons for teachers' absence according to the variables of qualification and financial grade. Based on the results of the study, a number of recommendations and suggestions was proposed to serve the educational field
