Studying some factors of aversion to mathematics among intermediate and secondary students - a field study in the state of Blida -
Abstract
This study attempts to investigate the factors that interfere with reducing the level of students' performance in mathematics, through the viewpoints of a sample consisting of (40) students and (20) teachers from the intermediate and secondary levels from the state of Blida, where a short questionnaire was used for this purpose. Asking some questions that can combine the reasons related to the student in the first place, and the subject of mathematics itself in the second place, and the method used in teaching it in the third place. The results of this study indicated a consensus on the intervention of each of the factors related to the student (his prior negative perceptions and beliefs about his ability to perform in mathematics and his inability to link the importance of mathematics as a scientific subject and its importance and need for it in daily life) on the one hand, and factors related to the nature of mathematics (in terms of its difficulty and dependence on a certain level of abstraction and depth in analysis) on the other hand, in addition to the method used in teaching it.
