This study aimed to identify the causes of cognitive abstinence among faculty members and to identify its manifestations. There are many factors and reasons that led to the emergence of the phenomenon of cognitive abstinence among faculty, perhaps the most important of which are: fear of losing a certain advantage, poor documentation of implicit knowledge as well as the spread of a culture of hindering cognitive sharing among researchers

There are a range of mechanisms to reduce the phenomenon of cognitive abstinence, the most important of which are: encouraging teamwork and localizing the culture of cognitive sharing among faculty members.
