The relationship of satisfaction with marital life with the economic and academic level of Palestinian spouses in the southern West Bank

Abstract

The present study aims at clarifying the correlation between marital life satisfaction
and the financial and academic level of couples. The qualitative method with its descriptive
and analytical prongs has been used as it suits this type of studies. The study sample consisted
of 922 spouses from the Districts of Hebron and Bethlehem in the West Bank including cities,
villages and refugee camps. A questionnaire has been used as a research tool. The results
indicate that there are statistical significant differences in the marital satisfaction that is
related to the financial and academic level of the spouses. It has been revealed that spouses
with low financial and economic have lower marital satisfaction compared to spouses with
good financial and academic level. It has also been revealed that marital satisfaction among
high academic level is higher that marital satisfaction among spouses with low academic
level. This study will have theoretical and practical benefits in understanding marital life in
general and marital satisfaction in particular.
