Abstract

The gap today exists between those who controls and orients the media discourse
into their interests and goals. The media’s influence has been under the control of the
northern countries (which are the industrialized and advanced countries and also they are
dominants countries in terms of politic, economy and media) on the southern that tarnished
its image. The media portrayal plays an effective role in the consolidation of this negative
image to the public which in turn transfers it to another audience. And in this image
Muslims were described as terrorists, and their religion urge them to violence and
extremism, and in this way audiences with all their segments are camouflaged by the visual
and written discourse.
This is the aim of this research paper, to recognize the image of Islam and Muslims
in the western media. In another words how the western media portrayed the Muslims and
the Islamic religion after the September 11 attacks?
