FabLab Manufacturing Laboratories as a Mechanism for Stimulating Innovation Among University Students and Professors – A Case Study of the Smart FabLab at Constantine 2 University
Abstract
This study explores the philosophy and principles of FabLab manufacturing laboratories and their role in fostering teamwork, openness, and creativity. FabLabs provide fertile environments where innovation can flourish, giving rise to emerging enterprises that drive economic growth and sustainable development. The research focuses on analyzing the experience of the Smart FabLab at Constantine 2 –Abdelhamid Mehri University, examining its contribution to stimulating innovation among students and professors. Using a descriptive and case study approach, data were collected through an interview with the lab director and a questionnaire distributed to professors supervising student projects. Findings show that the Smart FabLab has achieved notable success despite being a recent initiative. However, improvements are needed in organizational structure, visibility, strategic planning, and community engagement, as well as in fostering broader local and international collaboration to strengthen its impact on innovation and knowledge sharing.
