The Phenomenon of Drug Abuse and Addiction in Laghouat (Study of the Psychological and Social Reasons)
Abstract
The main purpose of this study was to identify the psychological and social reasons and factors
leading to drug abuse and addiction in Laghouat. The study sample consisted of 150 individuals, the
majority of whom are patients in “The Addicts Treatment Center.” The researcher built a questionnaire
consisting of 70 items divided into three axes: Personality factors, psychological factors and social factors.
The questionnaire was introduced to professional teachers in addition to measuring honesty and
consistency. The study found that there are a number of psychological factors that lead people to drug
abuse, including: imitating others, proving manhood, escape from problems, desire for fun, forgetting
worries and lack of self-confidence, as well as reasons related to family, friends, drugs and schools.
