Abstract

In this paper, we address one of the key themes within the World Trade Organization (WTO), namely sustainable development and the contradiction that remains between the principles of organization and the objectives of the economy. green; the object being, to focus on the problem of the application of environmental measures within the multilateral trading system (MTS) in order to promote sustainable development and the difficulty of converging towards trade liberalization and environmental protection . After a reminder on the new multilateralism and its treatment of the questions related to the protection of the environment while passing by the various environmental dimensions which appear in the agreements of the WTO, we will approach the effects of scale, composition and technique mutual support (Grossman and Krueger, 1993) by providing explanatory elements for this problem to conclude with the re-examination of the environmental Kuznets curve (CKE) in terms of CO2 which results from the dynamization of the three effects, so that it can respond significantly to concrete environmental problems and sustainable development issues, particularly with the launch of the SDGs.
